ASIC's FY26 civil penalties are already a record, Adaca FOI analysis shows
Adaca's analysis of ASIC's own Freedom of Information data shows the regulator's FY26 civil penalty haul closed the year at $830 million, a record for any financial year, without any increase in the number of cases filed.
Sydney, 9 July 2026 – Adaca, a technology services and AI consultancy working with regulated-industry clients across Australia, has analysed a decade of ASIC enforcement data obtained under Freedom of Information. The data shows ASIC collected $830 million in civil penalties across the full 2025-26 financial year, more than the regulator collected in any single full financial year on record.
The case count hasn't moved. The penalties have.
Adaca's analysis of the FOI data finds the jump is not down to ASIC filing more cases. The regulator lodged 29 civil proceedings in the ten months to April 2026, roughly in line with the 33-a-year average across the previous decade. What has changed is the size of the penalty each action produces.

Key findings from the FOI data:
Civil penalties, FY2025-26 (full year)
$830 million, the highest of any financial year on record. The previous peak was $229.9 million in FY2021-22.
A decade of penalties in one year
The $830 million collected in FY2025-26 is close to the $887.2 million ASIC collected in civil penalties across the entire preceding decade, FY2015-16 to FY2024-25, combined.
Investigations commenced
226 in the ten months to April 2026, already approaching the decade high of 252 set in FY2024-25, with two months of the year still to run.
Infringement notices
$8.3 million issued in FY2025-26 to date, the highest annual total of the decade, ahead of the previous high of $7.2 million in FY2023-24.
